The 7th New Zealand Kagyu Monlam for world peace was held at Karma Choeling Buddhist Temple over a period of three days from January 27th to January 29th, 2018.
Karma Choeling is located north of Auckland and is the official New Zealand seat of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa. It is administered by the New Zealand Karma Kagyu Trust.
The Venerable Pong Re Rinpoche presided. Born to Tibetan parents in New Zealand, he has already completed the traditional three year retreat, and is one of the new generation of tulkus currently undergoing study at Palpung Sherabling Monastery in Northern India under the guidance of Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
Apart from prayers and offerings, Monlam activities included teachings by Rinpoche, a special Kangyur procession involving both ordained and laypeople, and a fire puja for the living and the dead.
